MPhil Islamic Studies

About Program

The MPhil Islamic Studies is an advanced graduate program that develops deeper understanding of the Quran, Hadith, and other classical Islamic disciplines while connecting this knowledge with selected areas of modern social sciences. The program encourages students to study Islamic thought in a scholarly and research-oriented environment.

Students engage with contemporary social and intellectual questions through Islamic perspectives and develop the ability to examine current issues critically in the light of Islamic teachings. The program also strengthens academic research, communication, leadership, and analytical skills required for higher-level scholarship.

Graduates are prepared for roles in research, teaching, legislation, academic work, and community leadership. The program also promotes moderation, ethical conduct, intellectual growth, tolerance, unity, and responsible scholarly engagement within the Muslim community and wider society.

Objectives

  1. Build advanced understanding of Quranic studies, Hadith sciences, and other major areas of classical Islamic scholarship.
  2. Connect Islamic Studies with relevant areas of economics, sociology, philosophy, political science, and other contemporary disciplines.
  3. Develop the ability to analyze present-day social and intellectual issues critically from an Islamic perspective.
  4. Strengthen research skills, academic writing, leadership qualities, and scholarly understanding for advanced study and professional work.
  5. Prepare graduates for research, teaching, legislation, and community leadership roles.
  6. Promote tolerance, unity, moderation, ethical values, and constructive intellectual engagement through Islamic scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Qualification: Applicants must have completed 16 years of education, such as a BS or MA in Islamic Studies or another relevant field, from an HEC-recognized institution.
  • Minimum Academic Requirement: A minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 in the semester system, or at least Second Division in the annual system, is required.
  • Admission Test: Applicants must qualify NTS GAT General or the University Entry Test with a minimum cumulative score of 60%.
